Percent Problems with Money
Slide 1 of 12
Every money question is the same move
Percent means "out of 100." So 25% is 25 out of every 100, which is the decimal 0.25.
Tips, discounts, sales tax, commission, and interest all boil down to one move: finding a percent of a dollar amount.
This topic lives in Part II, so you have a calculator. The test isn't checking whether you can multiply. It's checking whether you set up the right multiplication. That's the skill we build here.
One warning up front: the percent relationships (tip, discount, tax, commission) are NOT on the formula sheet.
Only simple interest, I = p × r × t, is given to you. Everything else you carry in your head, and it's just one idea.
Key pointEvery financial question is "a percent of an amount": your job is the setup, and the calculator does the arithmetic.
