CAEC math test format
The CAEC math test is delivered in two parts on the same test day. The split matters because Part I bans calculators and Part II allows them.

Total: 42 questions in 2 hours. You need 55% or higher to pass; 80% or above is graded as "exceeds standard."
What the CAEC math test covers
CAEC math is built around four broad topic areas. A well-rounded study plan covers all of them.
Number sense and operations
Fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, exponents, and basic arithmetic with and without a calculator.
Algebra
Solving linear equations, working with variables, simplifying expressions, plotting lines.
Geometry and measurement
Area, perimeter, volume, basic angle relationships, unit conversions.
Data and probability
Reading charts and tables, calculating mean / median / mode, simple probability.

How long is the CAEC math test?
Two parts on the same test day. Part I is 12 questions in 30 minutes with no calculator. Part II is 30 questions in 90 minutes with a calculator. Total: 42 questions in 2 hours.
Is a calculator allowed on the CAEC math test?
Only on Part II. Part I is calculator-free. Most centres provide an on-screen calculator; personal calculators are generally not allowed.
What math topics are on the test?
Number sense and operations, algebra, geometry and measurement, and data and probability. Questions are multiple choice and test understanding more than rote memorization.
What's a passing score on CAEC math?
55% or higher. 80% and above is graded as "exceeds standard." Below 55% is not passing.
Can I retake just the math test if I fail it?
Yes. CAEC subject tests are taken separately, so you only need to retake the section you didn't pass. Fees and limits vary by province, see our retake fees and rescore costs article for details.
