Free CAEC Practice Test PDF (With Answers)

· 7 min read

The single most useful thing you can do before sitting the CAEC is take a full practice test under realistic conditions. It tells you where you stand on every subject, exposes the topics you need to drill, and gets you used to the pacing.

This post explains what a good CAEC practice test should include, points you to a free PDF download, and walks through how to use practice tests so you actually get better, not just busier.

What should a CAEC practice test include?

Not all practice tests are equal. A practice test that's going to actually prepare you for the CAEC should match the real exam on three things:

  • Coverage of all five subjects. Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. If the practice test only covers one or two subjects, you'll only know how prepared you are for those.
  • A realistic question mix. CAEC questions are mostly multiple-choice with one essay in the Writing section. Practice tests that feel different from the real format won't train the right reflexes.
  • An answer key with explanations. Knowing the right answer isn't enough. The explanations matter more, because they teach you why the wrong answers were tempting and how to avoid the same mistake again.

How to use a practice test effectively

The mistake most learners make is taking a practice test, glancing at the score, and moving on. The score is the least valuable part. Here's the routine that actually moves the needle.

  1. Sit it under timed conditions. Phone away. Same time limit as the real test for that subject. No flipping back to look things up. You're training stamina and pacing as much as content.
  2. Score it, but don't obsess. Your raw score is just a snapshot. What matters is which questions you missed.
  3. Read the answer key for every wrong answer. And every right answer that you weren't sure about. The goal is to understand the reasoning, not memorize the answer.
  4. Categorize your mistakes. Were they topic gaps (didn't know the concept), careless errors (knew it but mis-read), or pacing issues (rushed)? Each type needs a different fix.
  5. Drill the weak topic. If you missed three percentage questions, do twenty more percentage questions before the next practice test. Then take the next test and see if you improved.
